Happy Thanksgiving (2019)

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever!
Let the redeemed of the LORD say so,
whom he has redeemed from trouble
and gathered in from the lands,
from the east and from the west,
from the north and from the south.
Psalm 107:1-3 (ESV)

We have so many things to be thankful for this year! And, thankfulness is such a worthy attitude to maintain. The busyness of life and the drama of the day to day so often turns our outlook inward, or rather, selfward.

We may be tempted to focus on what we “need” instead of what we have.

We may be tempted to focus on “what you’re doing wrong” instead of all of the things you have done to bless me.

We may be tempted (especially in the midst of presidential politics) to despise our differences instead of finding common ground.

We may be tempted to frustration at the slowness in our sanctification instead of the exceedingly great mountain of grace and mercy that God has already poured out to us.

We may be tempted to see how the entire world and this idiotic culture is “going to hell in a handbasket” instead of seeing the steady, fruitful progress of the Kingdom of God, doing its work as leaven works through the entire lump of dough (Luke 13:20-21).

Please, take a moment today to reflect on the goodness that is all around you. And if there is only a little goodness, then reflect on that. And if there is no goodness, then look up to your Creator in heaven, who is altogether good.

Happy Thanksgiving from the Franzones!
